The Mayor’s House is a delightful Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant, a little gem in Oak Cliff. We arrived around 7 PM on a Wednesday night and were seated right away. We chose outdoor seating as it was a perfect night. The outdoor ambience was cozy and comfortable.
We started with tzatziki and shishito peppers. The tzatziki was one of the better ones I’ve had and was served with fresh baked bread. The shishito peppers were sautéed and has a yogurt sauce drizzled on them. They, too were quite good.
For our entree, we shared the Beyti special, chargrilled chopped lamb rolled in a flat bread and served with tomato yogurt sauce, Turkish rice and a delicious bean salad. This was a perfect sized meal for two of us after finishing off our appetizers and having a second loaf of bread with our entree. I highly recommend the Beyti.
For dessert, we chose a pistachio mousse served on a chocolate cake base, with strawberries and topped with chocolate cake crumbles. The mousse was perfectly whipped and the pistachio was not overpowering. It was well balanced and went perfectly with the slightly tart strawberries and chocolate cake base and crumbles. I highly recommend this dessert if you go.
Last, I had a glass of Selection, a red Turkish wine made from the Okugozu and Bogazkere grapes. The wine had the structure of a Pinot noir, with aromas of cherry, raspberry and cinnamon. Similar flavors on the tasting and a smooth and subtle finish. I’d rate it 3.9/5 stars, and a good value with our meal.
My only comment was our server was very busy and didn’t come by quite as often as I expected. When he did come to the table, he was accommodating and funny, and he was very helpful navigating the menu. Maybe he was just giving this old couple their much needed space. 😂
If you like Turkish/Mediterranean food and are in Dallas, hit up The Mayor’s House by Selda. Great food, great setting, and a team that really cares about creating a great experience for their customers. I think you’ll be glad you did.
Cheers!
