What makes it fun
Walking hand in hand around the lagoon’s winding paths and native wildlife friendly waters feels like slipping into your own mini escape, right in the heart of the city. The Leonhardt Lagoon was built as part of the original civic plan for Fair Park back in 1936, and after a thoughtful restoration with sweeping, serpent like walkways by artist Patricia Johanson, it became a serene refuge of trees, turtles, birds, and calm water. If you’re feeling playful, you can even hop into a swan shaped paddle boat and drift together across the water. Bring a picnic basket, a cozy blanket, or even just a couple of snacks, and find a bench or a grassy shoreline under the trees.
