Honestly… this was really delicious.
I admit, I am one of the people who for sure considered Carbone overhyped and couldn’t ever see myself going. However, my mom was in town and treated us to dinner and it was really phenomenal. The service was exceptional, and every detail was taken into account from the changing of plates between courses, to the honest food recommendations by the staff. Extremely expensive? Absolutely. But amazingly delicious? Yes.
The dishes are meant to be shared because they are LARGE! We ordered 1 starter / salad, 2 pastas, 1 main dish, 1 side, and 1 desert for 3 people, which was honestly a lot of food and we ended up taking plenty home. The cocktails were a hit, and I really enjoyed the extensive list of grappa they had to offer.
One word of advice - the atmosphere varies WILDLY between the “outside” warehouse space, and the “inside” cozy low lit atmosphere. It’s hard to explain, but there are almost 2 different versions of Carbone, and I’m not sure what determines where you sit. We sat on the “inside” which had lovely light fixtures, table lamps, built in booths in the walls, and a gorgeous bar. The “outside” had white air ducts hanging down from the ceiling , with fluorescent lighting until about 9 pm, which kind of feels like a pop up experience.
