We tried the $120 15-piece omakase at Dozo, and overall, it was an excellent experience. Fourteen out of fifteen dishes were absolutely amazing; fresh, beautifully prepared, and thoughtfully presented. You can tell the chef puts care and creativity into each piece. The only real letdown was the dessert: a little matcha fruit jar that was, honestly, mediocre at best.
The atmosphere was great...simple, quiet, and relaxed. We went on a Wednesday, and it was just us and two other couples, which made the whole experience feel intimate and unhurried.
The service was wonderful. The chef preparing the omakase was engaging and friendly, offering stories about each dish and even surprising us with a few extra tastings. The waitstaff were polite and attentive, though the sake pairing left something to be desired. It’s marketed as a pairing, but the three sakes didn’t really complement the omakase courses....they felt more like individual selections than a cohesive match. On their own, each sake was fine, but calling it a “pairing” was a stretch.
All in all, Dozo delivers a top-notch omakase experience ... fantastic food, great service, and a calm, elegant setting. Just skip the dessert and maybe order your sake à la carte.
