    What makes it fun

The African American Museum of Dallas is a date destination where art meets heart and is immersed in culture. Nestled in a grand ivory‑stone building at Fair Park, its vaulted galleries and soft natural lighting create a tranquil, intimate ambiance which is perfect for whispering sweet thoughts amid beautiful exhibits. Step into the galleries filled with African artifacts, folk art, decorative pieces, historic archives and fine art by legends like Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence. Why is it great for a date? Because history and artistry spark connection and every exhibit gives you something new to talk about, ponder, and admire side by side. Plus, admission is free, so you can focus on the chemistry, not the budget.

Definitely check for special events or docent tours, they make the already fantastic exhibits even better!

An excellent history of Afro Americans in the Dallas area! They did have some wonderful folk art pieces! When I visited in the morning it was a little warm touring the exhibits in the museum - but well worth a visit in looking at the Texas State Fair area!

My first time visiting I really enjoyed it. Learning about the financial history of cotton and the monumental part our people played in that commerce was quite the shock.

Everyone should visit this amazing museum! We went with our co-op Homeschool Collective on this field trip. Dr. Dulaney was our docent tour guide and his information was invaluable for the students. The different exhibits, the textiles, the architecture, every detail was just incredible. I can't wait to go to one of the freedom school classes!

It used to be bypasses through sacred sites and burial grounds. Now it’s delete buttons from museums, national parks, Arlington cemetery, and federally funded curriculum.

    This history is prescient!!!

Thank you for preserving American History!!!

I went to Freedman’s cemetery first, and was glad that SOME headstones had been preserved when I saw them here.

    Liberty and justice for all!

The docents were amazing! They maintain the knowledge of our ancestors which we should all visit and refill upon! Expire facts you won't get taught until you learn them. Feel the expression of Being Black and Proud is here!
